Share with friends who are paying retail price for their travel!

All information about the Citi Strata Elite℠ Card has been collected independently by Travel Freely. The issuer did not provide the details, nor is it responsible for their accuracy.

🔥 Update: All 3 cards currently have elevated welcome offers up to or “as high as” 100,000 points or miles. (For the American Express® Gold Card’s “As High As” 100K Membership Rewards® welcome offer, note that welcome offers vary and you may not be eligible for an offer.)

When it comes to mid-range premium cards, the Citi Strata Elite℠ Card, (Citi is a partner of Travel Freely), the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card, and the American Express® Gold Card are easily 3 of the best card options you can invest in towards your free travel goals. All 3 cards offer big value that you can easily transfer to loyalty partners in their respective rewards programs.

If you’ve been eyeing one of the big 100K welcome offers but aren’t sure which card makes the most sense for your real-life spending, you’re not alone. Choosing between mid-range premium cards can feel overwhelming – especially when annual fees and credits differ so much.

The big question isn’t whether these offers are good (they are!) – it’s which one is best for the way you travel, spend, and earn?

Below, we break down the strengths of each card to help you confidently choose the 100K offer that fits your travel style and budget.

⭐ Quick Pick Guide

Current Welcome Offer Value

While the cash rate on a 100,000 point or miles welcome bonus is $1,000 based on a 1 cent per point valuation, the ability to transfer those points and miles to transfer partners unlocks even more value. (Check out our article “What Are My Travel Points Worth?” to learn how card valuations are determined.)

Citi Strata Elite

The Strata Elite is currently offering 100,000 bonus ThankYou® Points when you spend $6,000 in the first 3 months.

What really makes this offer stand out is Citi’s recently added 1:1 transfer partnership with American Airlines AAdvantage® – something no other major rewards program offers. That opens the door to AA’s famously low domestic award rates and several of the best business-class redemptions in the world.

Capital One Venture X

The Venture X’s 100,000 Capital One® Miles bonus requires $10,000 of spend in the first 6 months – a longer runway that many travelers prefer. Once you factor in the miles, the annual $300 Capital One Travel credit and the annual 10,000-mile anniversary bonus after the first year, the annual fee practically pays for itself.

American Express Gold Card

Depending on your eligibility for an offer, you may be able to earn as high as 100,000 Membership Rewards® Points after spending $6,000 in the first 6 months of account opening. Like Capital One, Amex also gives you more time to meet the spending requirement which can be helpful. And the ability to check for your personal offer without a hard credit check or any obligation, is a major plus.

Annual Fees

Citi Strata Elite

With a $595 annual fee, the Strata Elite sits at the top end of this trio. But Citi easily offsets that fee with up to $700 in annual credits, including a $300 hotel credit for a 2+ night stay when booked through Citi Travel®, a $200 Splurge Credit™, and $200 in Blacklane chauffeur credits (using this for trips to and from the airport saves money on airport parking.) Note: Authorized users can be added for $75 each and receive a Priority Pass™ membership that allows them to bring up to two guests per visit.

Capital One Venture X

The Venture X offers premium benefits at a mid-range $395 annual fee, making it one of the most affordable luxury cards available. The annual $300 Capital One Travel credit plus the annual 10,000 miles boost (valued at $100+) cancel out the annual fee each year. For more on the Capital One Travel credit, see below. Authorized users are free to add (up to 4 total). Complimentary Priority Pass lounge access is included for now, but starting February 1, 2026, a fee will apply.

American Express Gold Card

With a $325 annual fee, the Amex Gold comes in the lowest and still manages to offer high-value earning categories (the most popular being its 4x points at U.S. supermarkets (up to $25,000 per calendar year in purchases, then 1X) and easy-to-use monthly credits, like the $10 in Uber Cash monthly (up to $120 annually), which can be used on Uber Eats orders OR Uber rides in the U.S. (enrollment required). With this card, you can add up to 5 authorized users at no cost.

Annual Credits

Citi Strata Elite

The Strata Elite shines with its $300 hotel credit which can only be redeemed in the Citi Travel portal, $200 Splurge Credit, and $200 in annual Blacklane credits. Combined, you can unlock up to $700 in statement credits every year, plus enjoy four Admirals Club® passes, which can easily save you money and time at select busy airports.

Capital One Venture X

The Venture X keeps things simple: a $300 Capital One Travel credit and an annual 10,000-mile anniversary bonus that acts like a $100 travel boost each year.

The Capital One Travel portal credit is deposited into the cardholder’s Capital One account each cardholder year (including the year you open the card), is easy to use, can be applied at checkout and can be used to cover (or partially cover) any travel made using the Capital One Travel portal, including flights, hotels and car rentals.

Hot Tip: The $300 travel credit is only good for up to one year from date of issue (your card anniversary date), so we advise using it to book travel before tapping into your miles stash since miles do not expire so long as your Venture card remains open.

American Express Gold Card

The Gold Card’s credits are focused on food and include the following:

  • $50 Resy statement credit (offered 2x per year from Jan-June and July-Dec, for up to $100 per year total)
  • $10/month in dining credit for select restaurants that include Five Guys and Cheesecake Factory
  • $10/month in Uber Cash (which can be used for Uber Eats purchases)
  • $7/month Dunkin credit (up to $84/year)

If you regularly spend on takeout, dining, or Uber, these credits are nearly effortless to use and provide over $400 worth of value each year. Enrollment required for all programs and terms apply.

Capital One Venture X

The Venture X is the go-to for travelers who want lounge access without a massive fee. Cardholders enjoy Capital One Lounges, Priority Pass, Hertz President’s Circle status and a $120 Global Entry/TSA PreCheck credit. (Note: While Capital One Venture X cardholders can currently bring up to 3 guests into Capital One and Priority Pass lounges, this benefit will change in February 2026, whereby only the cardholder will be granted free Priority Pass lounge entry. Additional guests will need to pay a fee for entry. Or, you can pay an annual fee per authorized user for lounge access. See this article for more information on the changes coming to the Venture X airport lounge benefit.)

American Express Gold Card

The Gold Card doesn’t include lounge access or Global Entry/TSA PreCheck, but it’s still packed with high-value transfer partners and fast-earning categories that help you reach premium travel rewards sooner.
