(100K Offer!) 6 Reasons Why We Like the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card

Share with friends who are paying retail price for their travel!

If you’re looking to take the next step in your travel rewards journey, the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card is one of the best cards to add to your wallet. Capital One is currently offering a 100,000-mile welcome bonus after you spend $10,000 in the first 6 months, and that bonus alone is worth well over $1,000 in travel. It’s a strong head start, especially if you’re still building your points strategy.

The card does have a $395 annual fee, so it’s not the very first card most beginners start with. But, if you have already have the Chase Sapphire Preferred, the Venture X can be a great next step.

It works really well as your “use it everywhere” card because you’ll earn 2 Capital One miles for every dollar you spend, no special categories or strategy required.

If you’re ready to level up your travel rewards without making things complicated, the Venture X is a strong, beginner-friendly option.

Here’s the current offer:

  • Estimated first-year value: $1,300+
  • Annual fee: $395 (authorized users are free)
  • Ease factor: straightforward earning rate of 2x on every purchase
  • Great fit if you: want premium travel perks, easy statement credits, and flexibile airline transfer options

Here’s why the card is worth it:

1) High-Earning Value Structure

One of the best parts about the Venture X is how simple it is to earn miles while still giving you the ability to rack up points quickly when you want to.

Here’s what that looks like in real life:

  • Earn 10x miles on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel

  • Earn 5x miles on flights and vacation rentals booked through Capital One Travel

  • Earn 2x miles everywhere else

That last one is especially important. It means you don’t have to overthink your spending or juggle multiple cards. When you’re not booking travel through Capital One, you can confidently swipe the Venture X and know you’re still earning solid rewards on every purchase.

2) Redeeming Miles is Simple

Capital One makes using your miles about as easy as it gets. You can pay for any travel expense (flights, hotels, rental cars, even an Airbnb), then log into your account and use your miles to erase those charges at 1 cent per mile.

You can also transfer miles to airline and hotel partners, which is often where the best redemptions live. Since you’re earning what’s effectively 2 airline miles per dollar on everything, you’ll reach those high-value award flights much faster.

It’s simple, flexible, and very beginner-friendly.

3) Generous Anniversary Bonus

Every year you keep the card, Capital One deposits a 10,000-mile anniversary bonus into your account. That’s $100 in travel value just for keeping the card in your wallet. This recurring bonus helps offset the annual fee and makes Venture X a long-term keeper, not just a one-time bonus. Many premium cards don’t offer anything this straightforward or valuable each year.

And, speaking of ways to offset the high annual fee…

4) Annual Credits with Real Value

One of the biggest reasons we’re such fans of the Venture X is the steady stream of annual credits that help offset the card’s cost year after year. These aren’t gimmicky or hard to use, they’re practical perks you can rely on.

In addition to the 10,000 point anniversary bonus:

  • $300 Annual Travel Credit: Each year, you’ll receive a $300 credit for bookings made through Capital One Travel. Whether you’re reserving a hotel, renting a car, or booking a flight, this credit is very easy to use and immediately reduces the annual cost of the card.
  • Up to $120 Global Entry or TSA PreCheck Credit: Every four years, you’ll receive a statement credit of up to $120 to cover Global Entry or TSA PreCheck. It’s a simple perk that saves you money and makes travel more smooth.

Together, these credits add up and deliver real value; often enough to outweigh the annual fee before you’ve even started earning miles. If you’re someone who values long-term perks you can actually use, this is one of the biggest reasons the Venture X stands out.

5) Lounge Access through Priority Pass & Capital One Lounges and “Landings”

Airport lounges make travel infinitely better, and Venture X absolutely shines here. You get unlimited Priority Pass access, which opens the doors to thousands of lounges around the world. On top of that, Venture X includes access to Capital One Lounges and “Landings,” which are modern, high-quality spaces that travelers are loving.

The best part? You can bring guests with you, making it one of the most generous lounge packages available at this price point.

Important note: Starting February 1, 2026, the policy changes:

  • Free, unlimited access continues for the primary cardholder
  • Authorized users will need to pay $125 annually for lounge access
  • Guest access to Capital One Lounges and Landings will be $45/person ($25 for kids under 17, free under age 2)
  • For Priority Pass Lounges, guests will cost $35 each, per visit
  • Guests will remain free if you spend $75,000 annually on the card

6) Travel Benefits & Protections

Venture X comes with the kind of travel protections most people don’t realize they need until they really need them: trip delay coverage, trip cancellation/interruption insurance, lost luggage protection, and primary rental car coverage.

What’s unique here is that many of these perks also extend to authorized users, and you can add them for free. That’s a huge value add if you have family members or travel companions who could benefit from the same protections.

Capital One Venture X Rewards Card Application Tips

Capital One has a few rules that are worth keeping in mind:

  • You can hold no more than two Capital One consumer cards at a time.

  • You must wait six months between applications for Capital One cards.

  • If you’ve had the Venture X before and already received a welcome bonus, you’ll need to wait 48 months from the date you earned that bonus before becoming eligible again.

Outside of these published rules, Capital One also tends to be more selective with applicants who have opened a lot of cards with other issuers. There’s no official cutoff, but people who apply for new cards frequently may find it harder to get approved. If you’ve opened several cards recently, it might be worth spacing things out before trying for the Venture X.

These guidelines aren’t meant to discourage you. We just want to help you understand the landscape so you can apply with confidence and set yourself up for the best chance of approval.
